Fine Art Nude workshop

Yesterday, Sunday, saw our first location Art Nude workshop of 2012 and we were delighted to have as our model for the day Christiane (Ulorin Vex) who was over from LA. Wonderful weather, though a touch bright, but at least we had warmth. Our venue provided our delegates with many visual opportunities both internal and external and having seen many of the images through camera screens they all have some stunning individual images and we look forward to seeing the fully finished images. Yesterday was our final Webinar in a series of 4 and if you missed them then they complete set of 4 one hour sessions are available on disc through ourselves. This is one of my images from Sunday’s workshop and I will post some of Faye’s tomorrow.

We still have 1 place, due to illness, available on the Pipewell Hall workshop on the 10th of June and also a couple of places on our location workshop here on the 27th June when we will be using the same location as on images shown from last Sunday’s workshop.

PIPEWELL HALL – 10th June

Unfortunately one of our delegates has had to call off from this workshop due to a serious illness. This leave a place for one lucky applicant. The venue is the fantastic Pipewell Hall; http://pipewellhall.com/ and we have top Art Nude  models Zoi and Ella Rose. For full information see our workshop page.

The date is Sunday the 10th of June and the workshop runs from 10.00am through to 5.00pm and delegates will be working with both models throughout the day.  Refreshments and lunch are included. To reserve this place then please call the studio on 01501 744909 or send an email to trevor@yerburystudio.com

Victoria’s Summer

In 2003/04 Faye and I undertook a 6 month-long project we titled Victoria’s Summer. Victoria was a young Finnish/Scottish girl who had just turned 18 and had always wanted to work with us and so the idea for Victoria’s Summer was born. All the images were taken during that summer, mostly in a private castle perched on the cliff’s of Fife, overlooking the Firth of Forth and in the distance Edinburgh. We had full use of the castle and its stunning grounds throughout that summer and we created a vast collection of images of Victoria which were all created using a 35mm rangefinder camera, in this case a Contax G2 with 50mm and 90mm lenses. The film stock was Ektachrome 200 which was pushed processed 2.5 stops on most occasions. Over the following years we scanned many of the transparencies and although many have been seen there are many, many more which are still to be discovered. This image has been converted to a black and white version which I think I prefer to the colour one and was taken in one of the guest bedrooms of the castle. Many people have asked about the book and the possibility of purchasing images from this series so Faye and I have decided to make available affordable images to allow collectors of our work to obtain several images for an affordable price. Prints are 9.5″x12″ and are made using our favourite Fotospeed Platinum warm tone paper, with the images placed within a white border and complete with a digital signature and the studio stamp of authenticity. The cost for one of our Open Edition images from the Victoria’s Summer Series is £35.00 + £5.00 p&p UK and Europe and £10 for the Rest of the World. To order please email us using the contact form.

Studio Fine Art Nude Workshop

After the success of our last workshop @ Pavilion Studios earlier this year we are delighted to announce that we will be back on Sunday July 22nd between 10.00am and 4.00pm with 2 top International Art Nude models.

On the Beach

Yet another image from our vast archive. Made around 1988 down at Yellowcraigs Beach which is about 20 miles south of Edinburgh. I remember that it was a  late afternoon in October and very chilly. Alison did some walking with the material but when she realised that I wanted her to lie down in the wet, cold damp water at the edge of the sea she thought I was joking….. After a bit of persuasion she agreed to lie down so long as I promised to be quick! Well we were quick, in fact I only managed 2 or 3 exposures on the Hasselblad before she jumped up with expletives flowing like water from her mouth and chased me up the beach!  Faye could hardly control her laughter at the site of this tall, pony tailed photographer camera clutched protectively in one hand while running for all he was worth being chased by a young blond wrapped in a piece of white sheeting screaming and laughing at the top of her voice. The finished image, a direct scan from the original 2 1/4 negative, shows calm serenity which was in fact far from the truth. This is one of those images that, due to the circumstances, will always be remembered by Faye and I with fondness and amusement and astonishment that we managed to create an image of such calmness and beauty.

Dusk - Yellowcraigs 1988

From the Archive circa 1987

This image of Karen which I came across recently dates from around 1987. Hair cut, makeup and styling by Faye of course. Shot against our bedroom wall using just the daylight from the large Georgian sash case windows. Hasselblad 500c with 80mm lens.

Update

We have had a very busy couple of weeks and happy that the remainder of this  month things calm down a bit! April we have 4 workshops, a couple here @ Claremont and then on our travels once again. We still have one place available for the Art Nude workshop @ Pipewell Hall on the 10th of June with our model Zoi http://www.dreamingofzoi.com

We have some exciting news regarding our relationship with our sponsors Fotospeed and hopefully we will be in a position to announce that shortly. Faye and I also had a very interesting meeting with Michael Pritchard, Director General of the RPS while we were at FOCUS at the beginning of the month and hopeful that something will result from that.

This image of Christiane http://www.ulorinvex.com/calendar.html was shot on a workshop last summer down in Somerset. Christiane is over from LA this May for a workshop here @ Claremont however that was sold out as soon as it was announced. We hope to have her back with us later this year or in 2013.

The Binny Gateway

I rediscovered this image taken a couple of years ago on location @ Binny the site of an old Victorian walled garden and now home to a garden nursery which hold perhaps one of the largest collections of Peony’s in the UK. It is a fact that after any session and you process and print contact sheets or download your cards there are some images, sometime only one or two, that seem to stand out and you are immediately drawn to and those are the images you choose to work with while you discard the rest. This was one that managed to escape the first selection and was left until I found it yesterday and felt that on a second viewing that it had something. Faye and I will frequently revisit old negs or old files, some going back 15/25+ years to see if in fact we had missed something and it is always a wonder to find images that we had initially overlooked. So today’s message is always review some of your older work, take time to go back in time and see what discoveries you can make.

Monday Again!

And so another week begins as the days get longer and the first daffodils in our garden begin to flower. Just waiting for the several hundred tulips to show their true colours and we will know that summer is on its way.

Today’s image is from the Victoria’s Summer collection made back in 2003/04. Shot on a Contax G2 with a 90mm lens.We just love the softness and texture.
